For almost two decades, the back-page column Sporting Life has rated one of the most popular sections of the magazine. In that time, John Gierach has been the top-selling fly-fishing author, known and loved for such books as Sex, Death, and Fly-Fishing, Flyfishing the High Country and many other books. He was born in the Midwest and after graduating from Findlay College, moved West and began fly-fishing. He settled near the St. Vrain River near the small town of Lyons, where he lives to this day.
