Blackwater Needs Your Help

The Blackwater River needs your help! Protect this iconic West Virginia treasure by asking the U.S. Forest Service to stand up to timber companies and developers. The U.S. Forest Service has released a draft plan that will transform the Blackwater Canyon Rail Trail into a logging road. Logging along the trail and subsequent development will harm the Blackwater River that runs through the canyon. This historic and scenic rail trail is one of only two trails that offer views of the wild and free Blackwater River and its rugged canyon. The river's exhilarating rapids draw whitewater enthusiasts, and the rail trail offers hikers, bikers, and history buffs the opportunity to enjoy nature and learn about West Virginia's coal mining history. Click here to learn more and to tell the Forest Service that you want to see the river that runs through the Blackwater Canyon protected for public recreation and wildlife. http://www.americanrivers.org/site/R?i=pE9RnAcxt6L.....
