PCB-Tolerant Killifish

When I was sent to New Bedford Harbor by Audubon to report on PCB contamination I slipped on the wife’s dishwashing gloves and reached down into the muck. These oil-like globules floated to the surface. I had been told by the EPA that the muck contained 200,000 ppm of PCB. Think about that. For every five handfuls of muck I grabbed I excavated a handful of pure PCBs! After the piece came out in Audubon an EPA official upbraided me for the alleged criminal offense of “disturbing a Superfund site.” I upbraided her for letting the mess sit there. Click Here
