Clubbing (of the bashing sort)

I have mixed feelings about all this. On the one hand there’s no need to “harvest” the seals. The Newfies’ argument that the hunt is needed to prevent worm proliferation in codfish is stupid and bogus. When I used to go salmon fishing in Newfoundland and was introduced as a “nature writer” the first, very hostile question was: “Are you Farley Mowatt?” On the other hand, the hunt is well managed and the harvest sustainable. GreenPeace used to photograph the discharge from the “mother” seals’ eyes and tell the public that they were “weeping” for their bludgeoned babies. With all the genuine wildlife crises that confront us, it strikes me that Sir Paul could better spend his time and energy. http://articles.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060302073909990003&ncid=NWS00010000000001
