Submitted by Ted Williams on Wed, 03/08/2006 - 12:55.
On May 20th, 2006, The Spring Running will take place in downtown Augusta, Maine. The event will highlight the Kennebec River as a valuable resource in our lives, communities and businesses, and will celebrate the return of fish such as shad and alewives. It will also serve as an opening to the new season: fishing, farming, and the anticipation of warmer weather after a long winter. The program will include educational displays, interpretive programs, demonstrations, and a Farmer's Market. Examples include: fly tying and casting, demonstrations of traditional barrel construction and preservation of fish, a touch tank, gyotaku (fish prints) and equipment and techniques for smoking shad and alewives. The event will commence at Mill Park and Old Fort Western, and will run from 9am to 4pm.
