Netted whale hit by lance a century ago

I am highly skeptical of the conclusion because the Eskimos were using this same ancient equipment as recently as the 1980s. Maybe they’re still using it. I wrote about this outrage in my first book--“Don’t Blame the Indians--Native Americans and the Mechanized Destruction of Fish and Wildlife.” Some of the “traditional hunters” flew in in their private planes to participate in the "subsistence" bowhead hunt. When it became clear that they didn’t need bowheads the feds relabeled the hunt “cultural subsistence.” In some cases when the “cultural subsistence” hunters killed one of these whales--among the most endangered on earth--they ate only the skin and left the rest to rot. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19195624/?GT1=10056
