What is the Real Mission of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation?

Yes. That “commitment” is to more and more and more elk and to the elimination of their obligate predators--wolves. The foundation is living in the 1920s. It believes what Aldo Leopold believed in his early youth--before his conversion to an ecologist--that “no wolves would mean a hunter’s paradise.” After that he watched “the face of many a newly wolfless mountain… Such a mountain looks as if something had given God a new pruning shears, and forbidden Him all other exercise. In the end the starved bones of the hoped-for deer herd, dead of its own too much, bleach with the bones of the dead sage, or molder under the high-lined junipers.” According to state data, which the foundation studiously ignores, there elk are overpopulated through most of their range.

The foundation is a major embarrassment to real sportsmen.
