http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Shrimpers-battling-over-turtle-rules-3752936.php I can’t muster much sympathy for the shrimpers. This is what they’ve said about TEDs from day one. And they have traditionally sewn TEDs shut because they realize there’s no enforcement--this despite compelling evidence that TEDs don’t reduce shrimp catches. Despite what they’re claiming now, continued TEDless shrimping is gonna hurt them as well as turtles. If it continues, they’ve face real hardships (like big no-shrimping zones) instead of just imagined ones, like TEDs.

Meet the shrimper...
A week ago, a fisheries-related organization that I belong to up here in New York received a letter. The return address had to pique my curiosity, as it was a Louisiana correctional facility. But the letter, which was clearly mass-mailed to any organization in the country with a fishing-related name (I suppose folks in penetentiaries have lots of time on their hands to do such things) said it all.
The correspondent was looking for any information that he could find on shrimp fishing; where and how to catcfh them, how to market them, how to distribute them. He thought that it would be a perfect career for him when he left his current home.
And you know, I believe that he's right. He'd fit right in, and undoubtedly already has the proper mindset...
