Last spring an alligator attacked a fly angler while he was fishing in Lake Istokpoga near central Florida. The Okeechobee News reported that Sam Crutchfield was wading in about four feet of water when the gator bit him. Crutchfield repeatedly punched the gator until it released him. He made it safely to his boat but understandably told reporters, "I won't be in the water anywhere anytime soon."
