Fly Fishing Museum Goes Ahead With Cheney Invitation

www.midcurrent.com/news/2009/02/fly-fishing-museum-goes-ahead.html

Note this nonlogic attributed to Ms Comar:

"Although we work with conservation organizations," she said, "conservation itself is outside of our role."

Does she really imagine that NOT honoring an arch environmental villain is “conservation”?

And: “Comar notes that the Museum has never allowed political reputations to influence its decisions about whether to include and display the fishing equipment of the various presidents or vice presidents.” Does she really imagine that the fly-fishing community will be thrown off the scent by this red herring? Who’s talking about displaying Cheney’s tackle, which is historically worthless anyway? The point of the invitation was strictly to fill seats, the better to shake down the public for cash. Yeah, we all need money. But applying green lipstick to the most vicious and dangerous enemy of fish and wildlife of our generation and thereby excusing and encouraging the abuses he perpetrated is whoring. It is also a prescription for future abuse because it rewrites the history that they museum claims to hold dear.

If we don’t learn from history, we’ll repeat it. Remember, this is an “honor” the museum is bestowing. It’s like the Holocaust Museum holding a dinner to honor Klaus Barbie because he was an important figure in that history.

Best,

Ted

From Trout Undergroud

Excellent commentary from Trout Underground’s Tom Chandler:

“….Ms. Comar, know that in your pursuit of dollars and nudge-nudge, wink-wink ‘look who I’m standing next to’ name-brand speakers, you’ve pissed off pretty much anyone who spent the last eight years fighting to reverse Cheney’s frequent assaults on our fish, wild places and water quality here in the West….”

The Snake

The Snake not The Angler is what he is.. If the tax payers could calculate the amount of tax payer dollars he has spent on fly fishing while in office they would be shocked. Air force II to Wyoming, secret service standing bye, heart doctor standing bye, ambulance standing bye, boats and guides, etc. It all adds up. Not to mention that the rest of us have to stand around for a couple of hours while he floats down the snake.. No boats an hour before and no boats an hour behind. Eight years, fifty or sixty trips, figure it out. The Snake doesn't fish we are not in a recession...
