A  rare opportunity is presenting itself in Big Sky, Montana this August 12th-16th: "Wine on the Fly" (www.outdoorwineadventures.com  ) is an exclusive five day event merging the arts of fine wine and angling.  This event will be held at the 320 Ranch, named one of the top 100 destinations in the world by Life Books. A maximum of 50 guests will be treated to two full-day guided floats down both the Yellowstone and Madison Rivers as well as guided wade trips on two miles of Gallatin River flowing through the Ranch's property.

In addition to some of the very best fly fishing Montana has to offer, four of Napa Valley’s most elite wineries will be there in person to pour over $40,000 worth of their highly sought after wines.  Attending wineries are: Heidi Barrett – La Sirena, Bo Barrett – Chateau Montelena, Justin Stephens – Hunnicutt and D.R. Stephens Estate, and Mike Hendry – Hendry.  Guests have a variety of fine log cabin accommodations from which to choose during their stay.  Package prices include lodging, all meals (including riverside winemakers dinners) and wine, transportation to/from the rivers, all guided fishing, and much more.  There are also non-fishing packages available for those who want the wine/Montana experience without the fly fishing.

There's something special about the solitude of Montana’s Rocky Mountains and the rivers that carve their way through them. Fly fishing is spectacular in its basic simplicity, yet amazing with its many intricacies. Wine is a romantic expression of not only the land and vines from where it came, but also from those spirited individuals who put themselves into the growing of the grapes and the making of the wine. Supreme wine and fly fishing indeed go hand in hand, and this is an opportunity to enjoy them both at their finest.  This event appeals not only to those who consider themselves "advanced," whether in the fishing or wine arenas, but for all of those who find themselves interested in either or both. Wine and fly fishing are two very enjoyable arts and neither should be intimidating to anyone interested in learning more—beginners are welcome!

"The Yellowstone River in mid-August is some of the finest hopper fishing anywhere in the west.  We'll spend the day floating in Driftboats with our staff of expert guides.  We typically float an 8 to 12 mile stretch of the river through Paradise Valley, casting big dries and catching Rainbows, Yellowstone Cutthroats, and some great Browns.  The Yellowstone has something to offer everyone: lots of good sized fish that are fairly easy to catch for people just getting started in the sport, all the way to very large trout on dry flies in the 3-5 pound range that experienced anglers will enjoy chasing."—Doug from Yellowstone Angler, Partner Outfitter, Livingston, MT

"It's shaping up to be a fantastic summer here in southwestern Montana. The largest piece of the puzzle has and continues to fall into place nicely.  We received plenty of water in the form a 100% plus snowpack this year and our wettest months are still to come.  We should have good flows through the summer months and, perhaps even more importantly, the other rivers here will fish well through the season taking some of the pressure off of the Madison. With good flows in August it should be prime dry fly time with hoppers, ants and attractor dries, bringing our outstanding current population of mid to large sized trout to the surface to eat.  We've seen some incredible dry fly action here in the past few years, and hopefully that trend continues."—Mike from Madison River Fishing Co., Partner Outfitter, Ennis, MT

"I am very excited to contribute to Wine on the Fly and anxious to debut our new companion brand to HUNNICUTT, called CUTT.  In addition to the HUNNICUTT Cabernet and Zinfandel, the guests will be some of the first people to taste the Fearless Red under the CUTT label.  Frankly, it doesn’t get much better than capping a day on the river with a fabulous, relaxing meal amongst friends, paired with wonderful wines!  Finding unique wines at fishing lodges is a real challenge and Wine on the Fly offers that unique, turn-key experience."—Justin Hunnicutt Stephens, Proprietor Hunnicutt Wines, one of the four participating Napa Valley wineries

Effectiveness, versatility,

Effectiveness, versatility, and durability are overriding principles governing a pattern’s success in this contest and are key concepts in my everyday fly-design philosophy. While most anglers aren’t interested in competitive fishing, these contest-proven flies can add to the enjoyment and success of a typical day on the water.
