Fantastic Fish Carvings
- By: Fly Rod and Reel
Mike?s carving origins began in the mid 1990s with working decoys. “I loved the art and beauty of finely crafted decoys working on water or on display in one?s home, but my passion for fly fishing and trout made for a natural transition to fish carving.” Mike carves fish models, Catch and Release trophy carvings including the English style half body displayed on a wood board (one of only a few carvers in North American practising this 19th Century genre) and his signature weathervanes, which
utilize state-of-the-art wood-epoxy composite technology. “Woodepoxy composite technology has revolutionized exterior structural wood applications from bridge to boat building including my weathervanes. The technology makes it possible to create durable heirloom quality exterior fish carvings.”
Most of Mike?s carvings are by commission and some of his weathervanes can be viewed at such public locations as the US FIsh & Wildlife Service?s Atlantic Salmon Hatchery in East Orland, Maine; and Orvis Company stores in Jackson Hole, Raleigh, Dallas, Boulder, Dayton, Arlington Texas, Sandestin Florida, Roseville California and Bend Oregon.
