Bean CoolWeave Technical Fishing Shirt and Shorts
More and more, I pass over the “flats scrubs” look for a more casual approach to my fishing appearance, largely because styles have changed but so have garment technology and designs. So goes the CoolWeave Technical Fishing Shirt from L.L. Bean. It’s a long-sleave t-shirt style that blows away a Hanes cotton t on performance. The lightweight polyester fabric controls odor, is as soft as cotton and wicks moisture away from your skin to help you stay cool and dry. Special fabric treatment provides UPF 50+ sun protection. Relaxed fit and raglan sleeves offer freedom of movement for comfortable casting all day. And there’s a zip pocket on the chest for tippet material or a small fly box. Even the colors have cool names: Sierra Orange, Graystone, Sage, Flint Blue (almost sounds roll call of my son’s daycare classmates). Sizes Regular S to XXL; tall from L to XXL. Short-sleeve, $34.95, long-sleeve $39.95; and long-sleeve quarter-zip regular $49.95.
Pair the shirt with the Technical Fishing Shorts and you’ve got a winning duo: Medium-weight, wicking, fast-drying synthetic fabric with SPF 50+, 9-inch inseam, reinforced seat (double fabric) button and fly style. Good news: no mesh brief. Accessory pockets (pliers pocket, cell phone, tippet, and the like), rugged belt loops, web button, six-pocket design. Available in three colors: Briar, Putty and Rangeley Blue; $49. Go to www.llbean.com
Costa Jose Sunglasses
Costa is rolling out its new 580P lens—a super lightweight, impact resistant polycarbonate 580 lens that provides unparalleled visual clarity, the highest level of polarization efficiency and razor sharp color enhancement. Up to this point, Costa’s 580 lens was only available in glass—which is still the most optically correct and scratch resistant lens material. But now the 580P option will give consumers lighter weight choice in the award-winning lens technology.
I tested test out the new Jose sunglass style with Costa’s 580P lens. (The 580P lens is available in 18 of Costa’s existing sunglass styles.) These are super-light sunglasses with great visual acuity; the non-slip rubber stems on the frames keep the glasses from slipping and sliding down my nose. The 580P lens color options are gray, copper and amber. Go to www.costa.com
